RISE UP! - A Storytelling Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Story Jam, Melanin Stories Matter, and 1000 Cuts present an inspirational storytelling, music, and spoken word performance centered on the legendary words of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

RISE UP! will feature award-winning, nationally recognized musicians, storytellers, and spoken word artists. Several of the personal, true stories will have original songs created for them with beautiful music featured throughout.

The evening's talent includes: Sarah Marie Young, Taylor Fagins, Binkey Tolefree, Nathaniel Viets-VanLear, Mama Edie Armstrong, Lynne Jordan, Dr. Raymond Christian, Nicholas Barron, Stephanie Rogers, Anne Harris, Kari Nelson, Cara Lopez Lee, Ashton Cynthia Clarke, Chandreyee Lahiri, Jen Zias, Sasha Im, Danny Shaffer, Scott Frost, and Fred Simon.

This will be a powerful and multi-faceted You Tube livestream to elevate and honor the social and racial justice work of Dr. King!

Guests will be invited to join the performers in a private Zoom meeting for a special talkback with the artists and producers after the show.

Proceeds from RISE UP! will benefit The Ally League Fund in Seattle, Washington. Administered by a charity, YP Communities, the Ally League's mission is to combat racism by helping allies move from empathy to action. They amplify Black-owned businesses by introducing quality products from Black entrepreneurs to allies and they also provide technical support to their affiliated companies.
